Welcome to my blog. It is a world full of random things, rants, the occasional (rare?) intellectual moment, and cross stitching.
This website/blog is for me, first and foremost, and for anyone who wants to know what’s going on in my life. It’s not meant to have any specific theme. It’s not meant to be profound or thought provoking (though, I may occasional challenge your points of view). It’s not meant as a diary. It’s just random stuff that I feel like sharing, including my thoughts, my pictures, things that are important to me, things that I like, and (mostly tame) rants about stuff.
The best way to describe me is to say that I’m an ocean-loving, cross stitching lass who likes to take pictures. You’d never know it by where I currently live (Canadian Prairies), but I only feel 100% at home around the ocean. I enjoy nature in general, but I love, adore, and thrive around the coast. Photography came from my love of the natural world. That and a very generous gift of a very nice digital point and shoot from my brother one Christmas many years ago. I have since upgraded to a dSLR and I am slowly but surely learning the ins and outs of decent photography. Cross stitching is a new thing (as off 2011). I don’t know why I like it so much, but I do. I hope to learn other needlecraft (embroidery, quilting, etc.).
I used to be an avid tree-hugger, flower-sniffer, and mud-crawler. No, I wasn’t one of those hippie oatmeal people, I simply volunteered a lot and did what I could to promote an environmentally sustainable life. I still do the latter to some degree, but mostly I just strive to be good to the Earth and to leave something worth loving for everyone’s kids.
Right now I’m working in contract management / records management (on the digitization side), but, professionally speaking, I’m a librarian (hence my blog title). This happened by accident, mostly. I was looking for something to do with my marine biology degree, and working as a librarian seemed perfect (I love learning new things). But, while doing my grad degree, I realized that I didn’t actually want to work in a traditional library. Which is good, because the first job I was offered wasn’t in a library at all.
You may notice the occasional post relating to veganism: I spent two and a half years trying to live as a vegan. I think that living a compassionate life is amazing and something everyone should strive for, but I just can’t commit to the so-called “extremeness” of veganism (it’s not really that extreme, or that hard, but it frightens people who are used to eating meat or who grew up thinking that your bones will wither away if you don’t drink milk). After deciding that most of the vegan communities I was exposed to were just a bit too holier-then-thou and elitist, I decided that I can do a better job of promoting compassion if I make it attainable and really believe whole heartedly in how I live, so I quit being vegan, went back to labeling myself as vegetarian and now strive to be considerate and thoughtful to all of nature (living or not). I still eat a lot of vegan food, but it’s nice not having to nit-pick about every freaking ingredient.
